“I feel my body has been used from me. Misrepresented and emptied of input. I want it to have some other which means, distinct from what the bodily offers – or basically get out of the way. I do not subscribe to the expectations imposed on my entire body. For that reason, what can supersede the illustration of the overall body, particularly in painting?
“I want to different the overall body, displace its sections, and break them down into declarations. Amongst these elements, is there a consensus of context? Possibly these fragments can redefine by themselves or turn out to be a thing solely new. I want to make a hierarchy of care—of what I feel is intended to issue. Can the paint repurpose what is expected of us?
“These figure’s stance is an angle of refusal. They are withholding. They help you save anything for on their own whether or not as defense or negation. However they are nonetheless there—as substance i.e the paint— and as a condition of intellect. Does a painting of a woman have to be the propagation of the female ideal—which ordinarily has been inviting, giving, erotic and comforting—an expectation that perpetuates girls as picture. Potentially the paint can be a placeholder for a different acceptance.” —Heidi Hahn, October, 2022
