The annual music festival – which is held at Worthy Farm in Pilton, South West England – celebrated a belated 50th birthday after it had to be cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Billie Eilish
The 20-year-old pop star made history with her performance on the Pyramid Stage on Friday (24.06.22) as she became the youngest ever solo artist singer to fill the slot. She was also joined by her brother and songwriting partner Finneas O’Connell at various moments in her set. After wowing the crowds with her biggest hits such as ‘bad guy’ and ‘Happier than Ever’, Billie used her slot to express her dismay that Supreme Court’s reversal of 1973’s landmark Roe v Wade ruling, which is now set to outlaw abortion for millions of women in the US. She said: “It’s a dark day. I’m just going to say that, because I can’t say anything else now.” But the ‘Ocean Eyes’ hitmaker was quick to reinvigorate the mood amongst her fans and told them to “scream” their worries away. She said: “So here’s what I want you to do – whatever’s going on in your mind, something you’re wasting time worrying about, something you can’t just get out of your head – I want you to flail around, and scream and stomp. “I want you to feel loose and free.”

Wet Leg
The indie rock band are enjoying an incredible 2022 thanks to their hit debut single ‘Chaise Longue’, which became a viral sensation in 2021. And they showed why they are the band of the moment when they took to the Park Stage for a short but stunning set on Friday afternoon, bringing with them banana-shaped balloons and bubbles as they performed tracks like ‘Being in Love’ and ‘Obvious’ from their chart-topping eponymous debut album. During their performance of ‘Ur Mum’, Rihan Teasdale unleased her signature scream on the crowd. She said: “Okay, I’ve been practicing my longest and loudest scream!”

George Ezra
The ‘Paradise’ hitmaker made a surprise appearance on the John Peel stage on Sunday afternoon, following on from other pop stars such as Charli XCX and Clairo. He told the pleasantly surprised crowd: “This is my favourite festival, and I’ve been here many times. I hate to admit, however, that I’m a very jealous man; all of my friends have been sharing pictures of their festival weekend with me, and I only got here today.” During his one-hour slot, the 29-year-old musician performed comeback hit ‘Anyone For You (Tiger Lily)’ as well as ‘Listen To The Man’ and a string of other crowd pleasers.

Noel Gallagher
The forer Oasis star played the Pyramid Stage before headliner Sir Paul McCartney and opened his slot with his solo material, which included ‘Holy Mountain, ‘It’s A Beautiful World’ and ‘She Taught Me How to Fly’. Noel joked that the crowd had only come to see him to hear the hits from his heyday in Oasis with his estranged brother Liam. He said: “Yes Glastonbury! I trust everyone is alright. “What’s gonna happen now is I’m gonna play a few more tunes that you don’t give a f*** about. “Those ones are for me. “But if you stick around for a bit, after that there’s gonna be a lot of happy people in bucket hats!” Noel, 55, then closed out his set with a host of Oasis classics, including ‘Little By Little’, ‘Whatever’, ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘Half The World Away’, all of which prompted a mass singalong. He closed the show with career-defining hit ‘Don’t Look Back in Anger’.

Diana Ross
The Queen of Motown took the coveted Legends Slot on Sunday afternoon and she did not disappoint with a set packed with her greatest hits. Diana opened with disco classic ‘I’m Coming Out’ before taking fans on a journey through her legendary career with hits such as ‘Baby Love’, ‘You Can’t Hurry Love’, ‘Stop! In The Name Of Love’, ‘Upside Down’ and ‘Chain Reaction’, while a slideshow of images from her decades-long career were flashed to the crowd. Referencing the COVID-19 pandemic, Diana told fans: “During these last three years, I’m going to call it a vacation, it gave me a chance to really think about the important things in life because I couldn’t go on the road, and the album is called ‘Thank You’. “I want you to know how grateful I am for this life, I am filled with thankfulness for each of you, I love the idea of singing in the daytime… I can look into your eyes.”

Megan Thee Stallion
The rapper stormed the stage for an astonishing headline set on the Other Stage on Saturday night. Megan treated fans to tracks such as ‘Sweetest Pie’, ‘Cry Baby’ and ‘Hot Girl Summer’. The Texas native also took a moment to hit out at the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the Roe v Wade ruling, which has left millions of women in the US without access to a legal and safe right to have an abortion. She said: “Texas really embarrassing me right now, y’all. The hot girls and hot boys do not support this … My body, my choice!”

Kendrick Lamar
Following on from Billie Eilish on the Friday and Sir Paul McCartney on the Saturday, the rap star headlined the Pyramid Stage on Sunday. During his set Kendrick performed politically charged songs ‘Alright’ and ‘ Humble’. The rapper closed out his set with a performance of ‘Saviour’, which explores political correctness and the Black Lives Matter movement. Following the overturning of the landmark Roe v Wade ruling – which has left millions of American women without legal access to abortions – he modified the end lyrics to include the words “Godspeed women’s rights”.

Sam Fender
Sam took to the Pyramid Stage on Friday just before Billie Eilish as a replacement for ‘Woman’ hitmaker Doja Cat, who had pulled out so she could undergo tonsil surgery. The performance marked his debut at the festival after he had to pull out in 2019 due to illness. Sam wowed the crowd with tracks from his chart-topping second album ‘Seventeen Going Under’. Sam was excited to get to experience Glastonbury for the first time. He told the crowd: “Me and the boys have never been here before, never been here as punters, never played before and now we’re doing it all in one day.”

Olivia Rodrigo and Lily Allen
The ‘drivers licence’ hitmaker was performing on the Other Stage on Saturday nigh when she welcomed British pop star Lily Allen onto the stage for a surprise performance. After admitting that she was “devastated and terrified” after the Supreme Court terminated the constitutional right to abortion, the two singers joined forces for a crowd pleasing performance of Lily’s provocative 2008 hit ‘F*** You’ in response to the ruling. As Lily was seen waving her middle fingers around in protest, Olivia said: “I’m devastated and terrified. So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this. I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a s*** about freedom. The song is for the justices: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh. We hate you! We hate you!”

Volodymyr Zelenskyy
Just before rock band The Libertines kicked off proceedings on the Other Stage on Friday morning, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy made a surprise appearance via video link as he asked for support for his country as it continues to battle the Russian invasion. In the pre-recorded message, he said: “We will not let Russia’s war stop us. That is why we turn to you for support. I ask you to share this video with everyone whose freedom is under attack. Help Ukrainians who are forced to flee their homes by putting pressure on politicians. The more people who join us in defending freedom and the truth, the sooner Russia’s war will end.”
